The Funeral Ethics Association was chartered in 1994 to promote and to advance the ethical practice of funeral service.

As stated in its Constitution, "The purpose of the Funeral Ethics Association is to provide the public and the profession with a balanced forum for resolving misunderstandings and to elevate the importance of ethical practices in all matters related to funeral service."

The Association works to educate funeral service professionals about ethical practices. It serves as a resource center for members by providing a newsletter, articles, books, and continuing education programs on ethical matters in funeral service.

The Funeral Ethics Association also provides information to consumers who have questions about the ethical practice of funeral service. It works to provide information to the public about funerals, funeral options, funeral arrangements and prefinanced funerals. When appropriate, the Funeral Ethics Association will serve as an ombudsman in cases of discussion between consumers and funeral service practitioners.
